About Please Please Me

Don’t miss Please Please Me, a new, heartfelt drama that puts the Beatles’ manager, Brian Epstein, at centre stage. It explores the true cost of bringing up one of the greatest bands the world has ever seen. Book Please Please Me tickets on TodayTix.

Please Please Me is a play about Brian Epstein, a man who finds himself in the Cavern Club, where he spots a scruffy Liverpool band that would land him an impressive future. As he works tirelessly to turn the Beatles into the global phenomenon they would become, his own life remains complex, shaped by secrecy and an ever-growing fixation on John Lennon.

Set during the rise of Beatlemania, Please Please Me follows the man who made the Beatles who they were, often referred to as the “Fifth Beatle,” through successes, desires, and the Beatles’ decline. It tells a story through an incredibly intimate angle, directed expertly by Amit Sharma.

More information about Please Please Me

Tom Wright’s play is directed by Kiln artistic director Amit Sharma and boasts a brilliant cast, including Calam Lynch as Brian Epstein and Noah Ritter as John Lennon. Alongside them is Eleanor Worthington-Cox playing Cynthia, Cilla, and Aunt Mimi. William Robinson plays Peter, Mike, and Dizz, and Arthur Wilson appears as Geoffrey, Harry, and Derek.

Behind the scenes is a creative team rounded out by set and costume designer Tom Piper, co-costume designer Deborah Andrews, lighting designer Rory Beaton, and music and sound design by David Shrubsole.

Please Please Me in London has attracted great attention for making Epstein the center of the story, rather than the band itself. The show focuses on the pressure of living as a gay Jewish man in the 1960s, making it an incredibly gripping play that audiences are sure to feel deep in their hearts long after the curtains close.

What to watch for

  • Lucy in “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” was actually a classmate of Julian Lennon’s.
  • Brian Epstein was expelled from school twice in his youth.
  • In 1957, Epstein was arrested for soliciting homosexual sex from an undercover police officer. Homosexual sex was still a crime at this time in history.
  • Brian Epstein dropped out of RADA after his third term.
