When Randle P. McMurphy arrives at an established psychiatric facility, he refuses to accept the unfair, cruel expectations that have been forced upon the patients, keeping them in a place of submission. His defiant attitude puts him at odds with Nurse Ratched, who rules the ward with an iron fist, and draws the attention of Chief Bromden, a longtime mute patient.
In One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in London, McMurphy’s behavior does not go unnoticed by the other patients, as he stirs a quiet rumble within them, giving them the hope of resistance and the belief that freedom may be possible. Directed by Clint Dyer, this production stars Aaron Pierre as McMurphy, with Giles Terera and Olivia Williams alongside him.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is a play revival based on Ken Kesey’s 1962 novel, using Dale Wasserman’s 1963 stage adaptation. Still, director Clint Dyer is approaching the material through an entirely new lens, incorporating contemporary political themes while remaining loyal to its source. By casting the ward’s patients with predominantly Black actors, it poses questions about racial hierarchy and how institutional control plays a role in that.
The cast is led by Aaron Pierre, Giles Terera, Olivia Williams, and Arthur Boan. The supporting company includes Jason Pennycooke, Javone Prince, Mo Sesay, and Kedar Williams-Stirling. Alongside the cast is a smashing creative team, including set and costume design by Ben Stones, lighting by Chris Davey, sound by Benjamin Grant, and video by Gino Ricardo Green.
