Renton, Sick Boy, Begbie, Spud, Tommy, and Kelly are back in Trainspotting: The Musical in London, bringing this classic story to the stage through song. Thirty years after “Choose Life” became an era-defining challenge, this musical returns to Welsh’s world of addiction and friendship even in the face of pain.
This production is written by Irvine Welsh, with music and lyrics by Stephen McGuinness and Welsh. The show features new songs alongside classic tracks widely associated with the film.
Robbie Scott is making his West End debut as Renton, leading a cast that includes Sheridan Townsley as Sick Boy, Kieran Andrew as Spud, Frankie O’Connor as Begbie, Finlay Paul as Tommy, and Yana Harris as Kelly.

Trainspotting began as Irvine Welsh’s 1993 novel before becoming Danny Boyle’s BAFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated 1996 film. Now, Welsh has adapted the story once more for the stage in a world-premiere musical at Theatre Royal Haymarket.
This exciting new staging revisits the characters and themes that made Trainspotting into a defining British cultural work, from addiction and class issues to the power of friendship and survival. The musical includes original songs by Welsh and Stephen McGuinness, alongside selected classic tracks associated with the film.
Caroline Jay Ranger directs the show and develops the production alongside a masterful creative team, including set and costume designer Colin Richmond, lighting designer Ian Scott, video designer Douglas O’Connell, and sound designer Rory Madden for Sonalyst.
This is a truly brilliant show that manages to weave in bits of dark humour without overshadowing its great importance, and it is sure to be a night of theatre audiences will not forget.
