Music City off Broadway is a gritty and charming jukebox musical featuring the songs of multi-platinum songwriter J.T. Harding, including “Smile," “Somewhere In My Car," and "Sangria." Following a pair of singer-songwriters looking to make it big in Nashville, this musical extended three times at the Upper West Side’s West End Theater. Now, it moves closer to Times Square in an more elaborate production directed by Bedlam artistic director Eric Tucker.

I revisited this Nashville-style musical not for its improved story, but for its catchy country hits and fun, talented ensemble. While the second act could use some trimming, you'll still have a ball if you enjoy country vibes.

Harding's catalogue is rich in country hits. Born in Nashville, Harding has written songs for Uncle Kracker, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, Darius Rucker, and others.
Those songs are the star of this new musical, which is produced by Gabrielle Palitz, known for her Broadway credits including Buena Vista Social Club, Our Town, Bandstand, and others.
