Soon the musical plays for a limited time only at The Loft at St. Luke's Theatre in Midtown, Manhattan. The new show follows Charlie and Jonah who are contending with life's biggest questions as they summon the courage to chase their dreams.
Soon off Broadway stars Oliver Richman (as Jonah), Ava Delaney (as Charlie), Mylinda Hull (as Adrienne), and Mike Millan (as Steven). The musical brings together two theatre performers who also create new works: Blaemire, who wrote the score and book, is known for his work in Broadway shows like Cry-Baby and Godspell, and Will Blum, who directs, has also been on Broadway in shows like School of Rock, Beetlejuice, Grease, and others.
Now, the two come together to create this new musical, premiering with Out of the Box Theatrics.

Soon is a sweet little show that while unfortunately is still very relevant, also feels very dated. The main crux of the show deals with existential dread for the future of the planet (masking existential dread for the future of the main character) but this dread comes in the form of fear from climate change which is still very much present and a large issue in our society, but comparatively it is not the main focus that it once was in the early 2010s when this show's development began. I enjoyed the space and music and performances and it was a pleasant surprise show I had not known much/anything about before attending.
End of the world and terminal illness with an acoustic backdrop. Super intimate!
It was Great show! I highly recommend.

Today, many musicals are adaptations of books, movies, or a singer's life. Finding original musicals is harder, which is also what makes them stand out and so exciting. When he's not performing in musicals, Nick Blaemire has been creating original ones for years. Soon is his newest one, and it features a cast of four and has an intimate indie pop score that befits this chamber musical.
In Soon, which runs for six weeks only, twenty-something Charlie is waiting for the end of the world. Her anxiety is getting the better of her life, but Jonah wants her to start living it. Before her time runs out, Charlie must do the hardest thing she can think of: open the front door.
Sometimes, taking the first step is the hardest one. This new musical boldly explores themes of medical diagnosis and mental illness, taking a look at contemporary characters and issues to reflect the world around us.
