Don’t miss 1536, Ava Pickett’s outstanding play about three women who are caught up in the fallout of Anne Boleyn’s brutal death, as it makes its West End debut. Book 1536 tickets on TodayTix.
1536 in London is set in Essex during the Tudor period. It follows Anna, Jane, and Mariella, three women who meet in secret, craving news from London as they wait with bated breath to mull over the latest round of gossip from the royal palace. But as word spreads that Henry VIII has brutally ended the life of Anne Boleyn, this violence at the royal level has cascaded down to the common people. The women quickly begin to feel the consequences of this in their own lives. Gossip turns into something very dangerous as the distance between royal politics and the ordinary relationships between men and the women in their lives closes in on them.
After a sold-out Almeida Theatre run, 1536 is arriving in the West End in a truly fierce production about what happens when the highest form of power gives men permission to act as they wish.

1536 is a play that boasts a formidable cast, including Liv Hill, Siena Kelly, and Tanya Reynolds, as they reprise their roles. The cast also includes Harry Bradley, Oliver Johnstone, George Kemp, Saroja-Lily Ratnavel, and Sydney Spencer.
The production is directed by Lyndsey Turner and written by Ava Pickett. Alongside them is a masterful creative team, including design by Max Jones, lighting by Jack Knowles, sound by Tingying Dong, and music by Will Stuart.
This production feels alive, with its poignant topics. It is filled with justified female rage at how structures of authority more often than not provide a feeling of safety for men who ultimately want to harm women. It bridges the gap in the belief that we have left inequality behind us in the past, because, really, we are still struggling with gender equality even today.
Don’t miss 1536, a compelling play written by Ava Pickett, making its West End debut. The play masterfully balances themes of misogyny and power imbalances with care and witty humour.
1536 is at London's Ambassadors Theatre, which is located at West Street, London, WC2H 9ND.
